Ensuring Compliance and Safety with Comprehensive DSEAR & HAC Environmental Audits at Land Energy Facility

Land Energy located in Girvan are a production facility taking wood and forestry materials and turning this into green energy products for consumers and industry.  Their production process, focussed on local supply chain of sustainable wood materials produces pelletised wood products and briquettes from their facility in Girvan, Ayrshire.

HAC Environmental Audits

The large site has expanded in recent years from the original production of pellet product to also produce briquette products which are sold direct to consumer and business as well as wholesale. The recent drive towards cleaner burning fuels has helped Land Energy expand their production at a fast pace, installing several briquetting lines in  this new production process for the site.

OTECSA Consulting have been engaged for several years at Land Energy.  Initially we were engaged to provide a DSEAR Risk Assessment and Hazardous Area Classification study for their pellet production process.

DSEAR Risk Assessment is required for any sites handling combustible dusts or flammable liquids, vapours and gases.  The Land Energy site handles large quantities of wood products, which can produce combustible wood dust during handling, drying and processing.  On most industrial facilities, quantities of flammable liquids and gases are often used for maintenance and machinery upkeep.  All of these materials need assessed from a DSEAR perspective to ensure risks of handling and operation have been adequately assessed.

With the expansion to produce wood briquettes, OTECSA were engaged at design stage to provide practical DSEAR and HAC guidance to help with the design and selection of equipment.  Following completion of the plant OTECSA have been further involved with the site to carry out DSEAR and HAC updates for both the pellet and briquette processes.

As well as our expertise on DSEAR and HAC, Land Energy also called on OTECSA to assist with environmental auditing and fire risk assessments as the plant has expanded.  Our environmental specialists have engaged with the site compliance team to ensure the site keeps up to date with current legislation and environmental requirements through regular auditing and updates.
