Enhancing Safety and Compliance through Comprehensive DSEAR Training & HAZOP Studies at Puremalt Products
Puremalt Products in Haddington, East Lothian are a producer of malted products for the food and drinks industry. As part of their production processes, Puremalt handle material that is covered under the DSEAR Regulations and therefore has potential process safety risks. Puremalt have expanded their operations in the past few years at the Haddington site, and as part of projects OTECSA have been engaged to carry out various studies including HAZID (Hazard Identification), HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) and DSEAR Risk Assessments and Hazardous Area Classification.
From initially working with Puremalt Products on one project, OTECSA have gone on to support the site over several years providing further project support. Our ongoing good relationship has led to Puremalt asking OTECSA to assist with awareness training for operations and supervisor personnel on aspects of DSEAR and Hazardous Area Classification for the site. Also, carrying out overall site HAZID studies to ensure all site risks are well understood and appropriately managed.
The recent development at the site to start a pilot distillery marked an exciting new chapter for Puremalt. OTECSA were delighted to be able to assist the site due to our broad experience in the distilling sector, to help Puremalt understand the additional challenges they would face by producing high strength spirits on site.
We have also provided additional compliance HSE support on specific topics; helped with control system definition for new projects; and carried out consequence analysis for overpressure protection systems in their roasting process.
Puremalt is another great example of the long term relationships that OTECSA has fostered with key clients, to ensure that they have process safety support on call when it is needed, allowing them to access practical and pragmatic process safety advice.
We look forward to continuing to support Puremalt as the site and processes develop further.
