That’s why, since 2022, Rathburn Chemicals has benefited from embedded HSE support through a flexible and consistent working relationship with OTECSA’s Jill Butler-Rennie.
Initially engaged for process safety work in mid 2020, our relationship with Rathburn deepened as their needs evolved. Recognising the value of regular involvement, Jill began supporting the site each month. She provides two to three days of dedicated health, safety and environmental support through on-site visits and remote deliverables.
This embedded HSE support model enabled Jill to build trust with teams, lead practical improvements and address risks collaboratively. Rather than offering one-off solutions, she worked alongside staff. For example, she observed day-to-day operations, conducted audits and introduced tools to make safety more visible, accountable and proactive.
In 2024, Rathburn celebrated its 50th year in business, and Jill was invited to join the celebration. The gift Jill received at the celebration was a thoughtful gesture. It reflected how much the team values her support and sees her as part of the Rathburn family. Being seen as ‘one of them’ is never assumed. It’s earned over time through empathy, consistency, and a genuine commitment to the site’s success.
